My local sharpening guy has retired – for the second time. The alternative is to drive 50 miles one-way to a shop in Des Moines. Something I prefer to avoid whenever possible.
So, it occures to me that someone must do a mail-in business for some types of sharpening. What I’m really most concerned with are my Dewalt planer blades (~13″) that need a 42″ bevel or thereabouts. I managed to notch them when recycling some mahogany that has staples broken off in the wood that I could only find the hard way.
Anyway, if anyone could recommend a place to mail such blades that is reasonably close to central Iowa, that would be great.
Thanks, Brent

Give Chuck a call, I was very impressed with the service from his company. Don't know for sure that they do mail-order business, but I'd certainly think they do.

Here is a nifty jig for honing jointer and planer knives. It has instructions on how to do three knives.
Remember, if you have a nicked knife you can loosen the knifes and slide one right and another left. An easy way to get rid of a ridge if the knives are still sharp.
