You need to get an insert bit...
Sharpening any pattern bit will change the relationship to the bearing. Switch to insert pattern bits from Amana, Hersaf will take care of the issue. A bit more expensive initially but cheaper in the long run. On a pin router you could have different size guide pins to accomodate smaller bits. Insert bits can be gotten 2" long.
