O.K., I bought a Delta 3hp shaper, but the holddowns seem less than functional for running door stiles & rails. Any suggestions? Thanx again.

I've been building cabinet and entry/passage doors on the identical shaper for >10 yrs and don't use "holddowns". If the work is shorter than about 30" (the length I can feed by hand w/o stopping or changing grip, I put it thru by hand. If it's longer, I use a power feeder. Rail ends are done by hand using a heavy miter gauge from Accumiter. Panels, always do the end grain sides first. On all sides, take off about 98% in the first pass, then the final 1/64" (1/2 turn on the height adjusting handle) on the last pass to take off any burn marks.
I have the board buddies. green in color . they are bidirectional and use them on my table saw.

I too have board buddies (green) and plan to use them on my Unisaw when milling dados in plywood. I have the Unifence as well. How do you attach your board buddies to your TS? Thanks!

I have a set-up on my 7 hp shaper right now for door panels that I'm running through by hand. I use an 8" feather board clamped on to the shaper fence for even presure down into the knifes-works like a charm.
I have a dozen feather boards of various lengths and widths and often use them for set-ups on the table saw, router table and shaper-cheap, low-tech and very effective. They can be used for pressure down and also sideways if your pieces are all the same size.

Jim,
Finger boards work great on stiles and raised panels . I don't use them on the rail ends , it's a short cut . Congratulations on your shaper, how do you like it so far ? I place the finger boards on each side of the cutter.
good luck dusty
