Trying to make stile and rails for some doors. Have a 3hp shaper with an all in one cutter that does the stile and rail by raising the cutter up and down. The rail has a gap about a 1/16″ where it meets the stile on the front of the door not the back. The back is tight for some reason. Have used this setup before with no problems. In the past I would lay a straight edge across the fence and move it in or out until it hit a collar on the cutter. Not sure if this is the problem or the cutters, shaper etc… Cutters have not been used that much. Thanks for any help.

Hi Newpoint ,
It's just guessing without seeing exactly what's up but ,,,
It sounds like an adjustment or shimming wrong or not enough or otherwise the detail may not be cutting into the stock the proper amount , which on stile and rail cutters is usually the full cut .
This can be a fussy set up with normal cutters , when it's off the corners don't come out right .
You said you raise the cutter up and down , here is where I would start .
take a look dusty
Did you remember to lock the arbor and is there any debris under your coping sled?
If you still have a problem, your arbor may need to be re-aligned.
Newpoint,
Is your stock square? If the cope and stick cuts don't completely remove the edge or end and your stock isn't square it could result in an ill fitting joint.
