Good evening everyone!!. Well I was able to purchase a Lie-Nielson 5 1/2 hand plane as well as a few of David CHarlesworth DVDs which have been a joy to watch (although the kids seem to think it is a bit boring) My question is since I have been working on the curved edge and the such I do not recall how the chip breaker was against the blade.. meaning should both pieces create an edge or should the chip breaker be set back a bit. Just trying to figure it all… Z

Hi Z--just a skosh back if you want it to attempt to break chips, a bit further if not. Really, they don't break chips (I dislike the term but still find myself using it) unless it is atom-splitting close. So, shoot for 1/32" or even a 1/16" and be done with it.
Take care, Mike
Edit to add-congrats. It's a wonderful plane!

No fancy fractions for me.... Many, many years ago. I was told to just set it back 'one THIN dime.' Except for one cheap plane, it's worked every time for me. SawdustSteve
