We heard the complaints… our search tool left a lot to be desired, so we kicked it to the curb and jumped on the Google bandwagon. <!—-><!—-> <!—->The entire site (excluding Knots… sorry) is now indexed by the behemoth’s powerful search algorithm.
<!—-> <!—->
This means that you can now search for “plans” and won’t get a list of content on “planes.” Our old search program had trouble searching our new gallery, blogs, and video workshops and that’s been resolved.

In addition, you can now filter your results in two ways: by Tool Reviews, which selects only items in the tool guide and by Fine Woodworking magazine archive. This second one is designed for magazine lovers. It basically allows someone to filter results to only show archive PDF articles.
<!—-> <!—->
Anyway, thanks to all for your patience with the clunky search of the past. Hope that enjoy the new tool. Let us know if you’re still having trouble finding what you’re looking for…

P.S. this doesn’t solve the problems with Knots search… but maybe one day…

Please increase the filters on the new google search (especially to allow one to filter out the gallery posts). I can live with the noticeably increased ads on the site, but please allow one to filter by more than just "tools" and "pdf". Why can't one search just in any one of the sub-categories?
Gina,
Please see my posting today in the magazine folder.
I didn't have problems until you changed it.

Gina, that is very good news indeed that there's a more effective search engine. I have a question -- there's a feature in eBay's search engine that I really like. Don't know if it's also part of Google's structure. To wit, if you want to search for either of two words, you put them in parentheses, separated by a comma. For instance, to search for either Makita or Milwaukee routers, you would type router (Makita,Milwaukee). Any idea if your search engine will do that?
