I just bought a new scroll saw from Delta model SS250. I understand the blade has a front to back movement. But my scroll saw blade has also a right to left movement of about 1/8. This seem to me totally not normal. According to Delta, it is normal. I’ve check with people that has a scroll saw and (delta model 40-640c and a couple of Craftsman) none of them has a movement from right to left. Anybody had the same problem?

When you "checked with Delta" did you do it by phone or by email? We've heard at least one discouaging story about their email tech (or non-tech) support.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I did send a mail to Delta but they did not answer. The store where I bought it, called the Delta rep and he said all Delta scroll saw has a movement from right to left.
First off all scroll saws have a slight sideways movement of there blades but it is usualy not noticeable a movement of 1/8 is not normal.. you should either contact Delta or take your Delta Shopmaster back to your dealer for replacement.. once the problem is corected get yourself some Olson scroll saw blades & have some fun scrolling..

I have a Delta scrollsaw I'm not sure what model number it is and it's 5 miles from where I'm at the moment. I've had mine wander around a bit if I don't have enough tension on the blade. Could you have the blade in upsidedown or a dull blade. I'm thinking like I'm using a bandsaw they both react the same sometimes. I haven't used mine a lot so I can't be a lot of help.
Gods Peace throughout this Holy Week

I'm not familiar with your unit, so here's another try at solving your problem. Is the blade holder 'fixed' in place or is there some side to side travel?? Are all parts associated with the up/down motion snug or is there some sloppiness?? If so, can the slop be taken ouy?? Try three things... First, a new blade and make sure it's installed properly (teeth facing down), second, crank up the tension on the blade. You should be able to 'play' it like a banjo, and finally, watch how you're feeding the wood into the blade. If you try to turn too FAST, the blade will wander from side to side. Even my Hegner, with LOTS of blade tension will wander almost 1/8" if I try to feed too fast.
