Is it possible to cut 1/8″ and 3/16″ carbon steel with a RBI Hawk scrollsaw? If so what blade show a guy buy? Will lube be required?
Thanks,
Don

I cut a lot of steel with my jig saw and my bandsaw .......
I don't know exactly what you mean by carbon steel. If this is hardened, then you will be unsuccessful with any blade in any saw that you're likely to have. If its mild steel (unhardenable, really) then that's OK. Then again, I don't have any real experience with scroll saws. But, if you can set it on slow speed (250 feet per minute +/-) and you can get metal cutting blades (bi-metal being preferred) then you will probably be successful.
However, watch out for your saw table surface. My Delta 14inch bandsaw that I converted to steel cutting now has a very "worn" table. I'd not like to have to use it for wood again. The steel chips simply do a lot of abrading of the surface.
If you have a jig saw, I'd recommend that as a cheap solution. It is slow going, but very doable.
