I’m building a bowed-arm Morris Chair, and I was wondering is it safe to screw down or dowel-pin the curved arms to the curved rails while glueing them to the rails? The arms were laminated over a form to match the rail shape, but because of the springback from the lamination after drying the arm curvature doesn’t quite match the rail. Will stress from the screws split the legs or arms? If so, should I just shim any gaps with thin wood to match?
Thanks,
Brian

Wouldn't it be easier to adjust the curve of the rails to match the arms instead of trying to force the issue?

My thoughts-- Re-Steam and try again with the same as made if it will fit into the steamer..
Each chair arm was built by vacuum bagging three thin boards against the curvature of the side rail that they would actually be glued to, so I can't really steam the arms. I was really surprised that they didn't take full shape after drying completely. I'm going to work on reshaping the curved rail so that will not require so much bending stress on the already-formed arm.
