I have never been allergic to anything except the normal stuff like molds, pollen, etc. Several weeks ago, as part of my day job, I used nitrile gloves powdered with corn starch. I was allergic, hands became covered with micro blisters and completly peeled. I touched my eyes and neck before washing up. All areas developed rash, etc. That epidsode set off a respone to sawdust that persists and presents itself with intense itching, dry skin, peeling skin, and prickly sensation. I have not gone to the doctor but have tried cotesone cream, various lotions and lanacaine. The latter stops most of the itching. Has anyone had a similar experience and found a solution? No, I will not stop woodworking.
Thanks

Lignum, you must, must, must go to the doctor!!!! Your body is sending you a warning signal that is loud and clear, and the next stage could easily be an asthma attack or much, much worse. I don't say this from reading a newspaper or magazine article, I say this based on experience with friends who have gone from "oooo, it itches" to being in the hospital.

Best of luck with this, LV, I hope s/he's able to find a way to keep this from hampering your woodworking too much.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
If your day job is as an employee for someone else this would be covered under workman's comp so any medical expenses will be paid for, but you need to report it right away. I agree with other posters, get this looked at immediately by a doctor, these conditions can get worse and really screw up your life.

I used to be a nurse and worked in the OR, now latex gloves make my skin crawl.Allergies are developed over time. You are born with out any allergies and they only form from exposure. You body develops a histamine response to various chemicals. So will lessen in time others get worse. I had allergy shots as a kid and somethings like pollens don't bother me much, but every wasp sting gets a little worse. Pre nursing I worked as a Prosthetic Orthotic tech. I developed a nasty reaction to polyester resin hardner and had to change careers.Go to your doctor the cemetaries are filled with hero's.
