I’m trying to find a slot cutter with a 1/2″ shank that has a saw tooth blade and a bearing that I used in a shop. The width of the blade is 1/16″.
The place the boss bought the bit from went out of business so you can see why I can’t go to the source.
To make things more difficult the bit has no name or other markings on it. We used the bit to cut a slot in the cope and stick frame to accept a barbed piece of rubber to retain the glass. I’ve searched the net with no luck. Any help is welcomed.
Thanks

ubc,
Grizzly has HSS slitting saws which should do the job:

Here's the 1/16" version:

Here are matching arbors:

I checked out the site and it's close to what I used but not quite. What I used was a router bit with 1/2" shank and bearing, and the saw tooth blade. What made it unique (I think) was the greater depth of cut.
I'm not sure what the Grizzly saw you directed me to is used for cause it doesn't seem to be ment for use in a router.
Thanks none the less for your help.
ubc,
The slitting saws can easily be used in a router. How deep did you need the cut to be? Leigh Valley also has similar tools for use in routers.
You may have had a custom-made tool. Such are available - do a Google search for "tooling" for suppliers.

I know it wasn't a custom bit cause it was bought at a place that was going out of business. I'll check out the LV site.
Thanks
How much depth of cut do you need?

about 1/2".
about 1/2"The 63-150 slot cutter that I mentioned earlier has 9/16" depth of cut (2" diameter slot cutter - 7/8" bearing / 2 = 9/16"). Is that too deep?

Sounds like it's perfect. Thanks.
I believe what you are after is a slot cutter and arbor with bearing. Check out the Freud 63-150 for a 1/16" kerf, 1/2" shank.
Also, we just introduced the 99-286 Glass Panel Rail and Stile bit set that cuts the groove for the glass bead while routing the profile. Saves you a step.

Charles,
While you are here . . .
I actually have a need for a cutter similar to that asked by the OP. I am using a Freud standard kerf 8" FTG ripping blade to cut mortises for splines in the corners of picture frames and boxes. I need the 1/8" cutting width and the flat bottomed cut.
I plan to stack 3 blades on a shaper spindle with 1/8" spacers between blades. I'll have to have the 5/8 arbor holes enlarged to 1-1/4" for the shaper spindle. Does Freud supply blades with 1-1/4" holes and is the FTG ripping blade available in a 7-1/4" "circular saw" size (or smaller)?
Rich
Rich,You could go that route (8" is the smallest diameter we offer in the LM72 series) or you could opt for shaper groovers. These are available in 1-1/4" bore:
UP170 - 1/8" kerf, 4" diameter, 6 wings
UP175 - 1/8" kerf, 6" diameter, 8 wings

From your description and application a standard router slotting wing cutter would do the job. Reading a book on routers would be beneficial to your knowledge. I don't beleive the saw slitter is what you need. The saw slitter is a metal working tool. CAll Ridge carbide and get their catalog. You can learn a lot from reading catalogs as well

Rick,
He asked for a sawtooth cutter. Those metal working blades will do just fine in wood.
Rich
I know plenty of guitar makers using slitting saws in wood for fret boards. Didn't mean it wouldn't work on wood but his application said " a bearing" and that pretty much ruled out slitting saws.
