I own the Performax 12-36 drum sander and it comes in real handy when sanding panels flat. The sand flee looks nice but IMO it looks like it's for someone who needs to sand small pieces of wood like that for scrollers. I doubt you could sand big panels on a sand flee with consistent accuracy. However, you could sand small individual pieces of wood on a drum sander. I vote for the Performax.
The sand flea will smooth the surface, but has no control of the thickness you will have left. I will however let you run any thickness of wood through it.
The machines with the overhead drum, and carriage belt below do thickness sand. But, you are limited in how thick the object can be.
Both will give about the same quality of finish.
So, if you think you might want to thickness sand, the sand flea won't work.
