This piece was in a fire. The bottom was in good condition and just needed to be stripped and restained. One of the raised door panels needed to be reworked, it looked like a ski jump. I took the door apart carefully and straightened out the center panel and put it back together with no problems. The top was another story. It was badly scorched and warped. I removed all the soot, stripped it and then used bar clamps to straighten out the sides and sanded most of the scorched wood off. I was able to hide what couldn’t be sanded by staining it with Special Walnut. This is what it looks like today.
