Hey guys,
I’m trying to find safety glasses that will work well with those respirators that have two filters on the side and are made from rubber rather than the cheap paper dust masks. The problem is that unlike with the paper dust masks, the edge of respirator that I have is about a quarter of an inch thick because it’s kind of curled around to provide a good seal (same principal as with gas masks). As a result, all glasses (safety and prescription) sit too high, feel loose and don’t protect well from below.
Is anybody aware of safety glasses that fit better with respirators? They would have to be cut out more that the standard glasses so that they can sit on the respirator instead of on one’s nose. I know there are face shields but glasses just seem more practical to me.
Thanks a lot,
Christoph

Look into the Survivair line of respirators. I have found them to have the best seal an to work best with glasses.
My glasses are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night. 20/400 vision.

I wear safety glasses with a respirator. I have OHSA-approved glasses I got from an optician. Then I shopped around until I found a respirator which didn't interfere with the glasses. There are lots of different shapes of respirator, so I eventually found one to work. The one I wear is the series 6000 from 3M. 3M offers three different sizes, to make it easier to find one which fits your face.
Hello Denis, hello Jamie,
It seems like both of you fitted the respirator to the glasses and not vice versa. I guess I'll have to see (literally ;-) because I already spent a decent amount (for a hobbyist) on that respirator and replacement cartridges.
Thanks a lot,
Christoph
IIRC, the glasses cost $90, and the respirator cost $15. (The glasses are not the lumberyard variety that have plastic lenses. These have glass lenses. They don't attract sawdust from static electricity, and they're much more resistant to scratching than plastic.)
I take it that you don't have 20-400 eye sight. If you had that correction you would find that glass glasses would be very heavy. I had 20-200 years ago before they had plastic lenses and I always had a sore nose from carrying those things around.
Jamie , All ,
I needed a new respirator and I do wear glasses when I spray and bought the 3M 6001 unit and I guess I forgot how good A GOOD RESPIRATOR IS .
The fit is great with glasses and they do not fog up , nor can they fall off .
Thanks Jamie for the referral of the 3M
