I have an older Ryobi 12-5/16″ surface planer (Model AP12) and want to hook it up to a dust collection system. I never bought the optional vacuum dust hood (part #4070012) that was designed for it. I have checked with the authorized Ryobi parts delare “Dixie Sales” as well as Home Depot and both say it is no longer made/available.
Does anyone have a dust collection hood they want to sell or have an idea where I should go to next?
Thanks – Bill

Bill,
Doesn't it just make you want to run out and buy another Ryobi product as soon as you can?!!
I searched high and low but gave up on finding one nearly a year ago. Since then, I've seen photos of home-made models that should work quite well - just a piece of PVC or ABS pipe capped at one end with a slot cut into the body and mounted to the machine with a metal plate.
Easiest approach would be to look at a Ridgid or DeWalt and adapt their design which is quite simple.
Oh, welcome to the forum!

Jeff - Thanks for the tip. I will definitely check it out. I was told by Dixie Sales (Ryobi parts distributor) that they stopped making them only this past November (2002). A day late, a dollar short - the story of my life. It's a good machine and has served me well. I'll have to see what I can cobble together. Thanks again. Bill
This links to the Ryobi tool forum-- mayhaps someone there can help. Good luck! http://www.ryobitools.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

Makes me wonder if I should go out and buy an extra one for my new DeWalt right NOW! Geese, talk about product support huh! Hang in there Bill, you'll work something out. I winged the collection hood on my first planer because I didn't like the manufacturers price on the stock one. I modified a joiner hood.
Enjoy, Roy
Roy - Thanks for the encouragement. I bought a Rigid one this weekend as a sample (will return to Home Depot when done) and will use it as a model as another person suggested. Bill
Bill,
You might find the answer at your local HVAC supplier. I was not happy with the stock hood on my Ridgid and adapted a HVAC register boot. It works great and cost less than $5.

Thanks for the idea, I'll give it a try. Bill
Bill, I purchased the optional dust hood for the planer when it first came out. The optional hood is a piece of junk! It constantly clogs and causes more of a hassle than it is worth. As soon as I get some time I am going to build a new one. I have been looking for plans by have been unable to find any. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate a copy. Bill
