You don't need a large router for a dovetail bit, 1 1/2 to 2 hp would be plenty and the machine will be much easier to handle. I'd suggest looking at a Porter Cable model 690, because it has an excellent depth control and good handling, other than the switch location which nobody likes.

I use the 690 and it works great for cutting the dovetails. Yup, the switch is in a rather inconvenient spot.
