My router has variable speed and was wondering if there was a reference guide that would give me a better idea as to what RPM should I use with what bit type or wood type.
I saw a similar chart that talked about RPMs depending or drill bits used. I was hoping someone can shed some light or point me in the right direction.
Is there any value to have variable RPMs in a router? or should I set the RPM’s to a “fixed” number and forget about it?
Thank you all in advance for your help,
Willy

Ah what I would give for such a chart, and what I would give more would the ability to translate it in a reasonable amount of time. In otherwords, although many attempts have been made at the creation of such a chart, none have done a very good job at it.
The manufacturer will, when asked, provide you with the correct operating speeds for each and every class of bit that they produce. Ironically, two manufacturers may produce two nearly identical bits and both may recommend different operating speeds.
Ah but one must not forget to mention the type of wood that will be the victum of all this precision tuning. Go with what the rep says and you should do just fine.
