I’m trying to find a jig that I can make that uses my router to create decorative bedposts rather than buying a lathe. Does anyone know where I can find an illustration of a jig that can perform this task.

If you mean you want to add flutes, try Goggling "Fluting Jigs".
Hi Knott
Legacy Woodworking has such a setup. If you check them out you can build a similar version to suit your needs. But honestly when all is said and done I thinkk you would be much better off just buying a decent lathe and learning how to turn. If nothing else it makes a nice place to support work between centers and then build a box jig around it to guide the router.
Marty
Thanks, Marty
I second the idea of looking at the Legacy machine. But if you don't have the money to buy the machine for this project. Perhaps you can look at other web sites made for legacy users, and ask if anyone can make your posts?I'm sure it would be cheaper than buying anywhere else.
Ide try http://www.turningaround.org Art. the web owner turns for a living and many other people who use this site, just might be willing to help you out.
or you could try other sites that sell parts, like Vandykes Restorers. http://www.vandykes.com Just a couple of ideas.
good luck. ;-)
I use round plywood circles atached to the end of my square stock and a round nose bit in my router table. Change the circle sizes to make a taper, put stop blocks on the fence where you want to make size changes or different bit designs.
there is another tecnique make a rectangle box with no bottom or top then at each end mahe a round hole the size of your blank and slide it in and rotate it over the round nose bit similar to a table leveling sled concept.
I bought these ideas at Borders Books they have nice color pics.
"Router Tips,Jigs& Techniques" for 19.95
"Router Magic" for 18. 95
Bob from VT, thanks for the advise. I will pick up those books to have a look at the pictures.
