Hi,
Just wondering if I can use a sprial bit instead of a straight fluted bit for cutting dadoes. I went and bought a straight bit a week ago but discovered that I have a spiral bit. So I might just return the straight bit if the spiral bit is ok for cutting dadoes.

The upcut spiral is what I prefer for dados. It makes a much cleaner cut.
Wouldn't a down cut be better for plywood or sheet goods with a veneer
that can splinter off the top?
I've used both and haven't noticed a difference, but that may just be the material I've cut. In terms of down vers up cut, I have a preference for the dust not to collect in the groove.
