Has anyone used the Rockler Dovetail Jig? I’m looking for a dovetail jig for some kitchen drawers. I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on it. Does anyone think this will do for some small projects?
Thanks,
Tim

woodworker79,
I bought one a few years ago and used it once...it worked okay but there was a learning curve. Getting the correct depth took some fiddling. Also, for symetry, the width of the drawer side was important so you end up with 1/2 dovetails on each end. Lastly, matching which pins with which tails....these are not big things but do take some focus.

Just as an additional note, I got the Rockler email newsletter today and the dovetail jig is on sale for $99. Comes with the jig, 2 templates, 3 bits and the bushing. I'm temted to get one myself, but don't have an immediate need for it, and I'm sure it'll be on sale again.
Take a good look at the new Porter Cable; the instructor who teaches dovetail jigs at school has decided to replace all of the Rockler jigs with the new PCs.

what's the diff between the *new* PC jig and
the old one (if there is an old one)?I see a few of those up for sale on Ebay.

Board,
I haven't test-driven the new one yet, but my friends, Bill & Alan, tells me it is far easier to align the workpieces with the new PC (yes, PC has made dovetail jigs - the Omnijig - previously), and far less fiddling is required to get the pins and tails to mate properly. It's a full 12" jig, which is great for drawers or dovetailing a bookcase, but not wide enough for larger case work. If I recall correctly, the new model is called the #4212 and it cost about $150.00.

Thanks for the posts on this.I have been reading up on the PC jig. Some of the reviews (I believe on Amazon) that I've read have mentioned that is requires a special bit that only PC makes and it's difficult to find. Can anyone comment on that?
