Rikon14″ Bandsaw Tension adjustment
RE: 10-325 Deluxe bandsaw.
I just brought this saw home and I’m having a heck of time getting the blade tension right. I’m using a 3/8″ blade. The built in tension indicator does not seem to go below 5/8″ of an inch +/-. Has anyone dealt with this? There must a simple adjustment that can need to be made.
It’s Sunday, tech support is closed, and I’d love to get this thing running. Any suggestions??

Run the saw.. IF IT will track on the wheels.. I only go as tight as in when the blade runs without vibrating? And then one more turn of the knob.
My Ricon 18" will cut straight and true.. Except for Operator mistakes!
Thanks, I'm going to try that. I spoke with Techsupport. They are blaming the problem on the timberwolf blade I'm using. They said they tend to be slightly longer causing them not to register with their tension scale. That would explain it. They recommend the '1/4" deflection rule'. Which is what I used in the first place. They don't seem to hold a whole of lot of faith in their scale.
It's a shame, it would be a great feature if it worked.
If you want to use Timberwolf blades... simply measure around the wheels with the tension relaxed to see what lenght you really need.
Sarge..
Msp100,
I have the same saw for almost a year, that thing they call a tensioning gauge is a joke...That said, I love the saw have had no problems with it all. I hope tech support is not telling you not to use the timberwolf bands. I have found them to be awesome, and not needing a great deal of tension. Go to their Website and adjust the tension to what they call the flutter test, works great.
Good Luck,
John
Thanks for the tip John. I used the ol' index finger method to get it going. I'll defintely check that website. Other than that, the machine's running great. I'm very pleased.
