I tried resawing a very green 9 inch diameter log (hard maple aka sugar maple) on the bandsaw, 24 inch bandsaw, 1 inch blade, 3TPI almost new & clean blade. Blade tracks into the machine about 3/8 inch immediately then cuts very true. I have two thoughts (1) do I need to dry down the log? and/or (2) use a different blade. I am assuming I need to dry down the log. Any thoughts??

It isn't possible to dry down a whole log without cracking, stress, and rot problems, logs are always cut green but it takes a blade meant for cutting green wood to do the job properly.
I have used a green wood blade sold by Suffolk Machinery, the distributors of Timberwolf blades, and it made a big difference. Give Suffolk Machinery a call and tell them what you want to do, they'll suggest a good blade for the job.

John,Thank you very much for your thoughts and vendor information. I will follow through.L
You're welcome.John W.
You should have no problem slicing up a green log.
It's not clear to me from your description what problem you're having. Could you describe it further?

Pete,The issue relates to the blade immediately deflecting off course. After a few inches it finds the correct track and does fine. I believe the blade is properly tensioned and I know it is sharp and clean. John White suggests that a different blade could be a solution and referred me to a vendor. I do a lot of re-sawing and have never incurred this problem before. Thanks for you interest.L
