replacing sandpaper on 12″ disc sander
Anyone ever done this and have the paper/glue residue come off cleanly? Had to do it once, and it was a major pain. Hoping someone has a trick to cleanly remove the paper. Thanks.

Heat up the plate with a heat gun or maybe a hair dryer while pulling on the paper in front. Change to hook & loop first chance you get!
I like the heat gun idea! I have not seen hook & loop for these 12" dia. disc sanders...do they exist?

It no doubt exists but I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I got mine from Shopsmith 10-15 years ago. It uses a PSA backing for the part on the disk. Were you able to get the sticky backing off OK?
The glue residue was the worst part to remove. It held to the disc and the some of the paper. I just picked up a heat gun a while back for something, so it'll be put to another use now.
I use cloth backed disks, they come off in one or two pieces and I don't have much trouble with adhesive staying behind either.
I suspect the heat gun or hair dryer approach would be the best for paper backed disks.

Where do you get yours?
My local Ace Hardware sells them but I know Woodworker supply also does as I've purchased them from them in the past.

Just before removable heat the disk by sanding a scrap .Then it will pull off in one piece.
