Hi all,
A friend has aked me to refinish a solid teak table. His wife messed up the finish when she ironed something on it. Apparently she laid a towel down and then ironed her blouse. It caused a white blurred spot in the finish similar to a giant water spot.
I’m uncertain of what to do. I’m thinking of stripping it down to bare wood, sanding, then refinishing it. Is all this necessary? Are there any shortcuts to the process? Any suggestions?
It seems like the finish is maybe a polyurathane or a varnish right now.
Thanks in advance.
Hugh

Steve,
thanks for the reference to Jeff Jewitt's article. Great article. As it turns out the damage on this table is from heat and he recommends stripping it or finding a nice vase to cover the spot. This spot is about 18" x 18" so....
I've already stripped it down and sanded it. I've sprayed a coat of shellac to seal it and will probably spray on a water based lacquer next.
Thanks again.
Hugh
