I am working with white oak, stained it, waited 7 days before applying the first top coat of finish/water based. The problem, while applying the top coat I noticed a run and took the sponge brush to it, when I did this part of the stain changed color. Is there a way to repair this without resanding, applying the finish, and …
Thanks

Pita,
I assume you used a water based stain of some sort. Is this right?
What type of piece is this and where is the defect?
Along with your stain and a small artist brush you may be able to hide it fairly well.
Use a "dry brush" for this. That is wet your brush with your stain and dab most of it off on a paper towel. then lightly lay in the color that is left on the brush into the defect. The adage less is more should be followed here.
Bear in mind you still need to seal this repair in when complete. Use a small flat brush to seal it in.
You may need to do a little rubbing out to get the sheen's to match when you are complete.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
Peter
thank you!
