I have an old oak veneer chest of drawers in pretty good condition but as with alot of old furniture the piece of veneer on the front edge , about 1.5 inches thick, is missing on both edges any where from 1 to 3 inches from each outside edge.
Any good resoureces on how I can fix, either fill in or remove and put a new piece on?
Thank you

Daryl, there are plenty of good books on the subject, and you can find these at a store that sells hardwood, or a big bookstore... but that advice always sucks when you're trying to find answers on the internet, I know. If you have searching skills, I'm sure you can find a DIY or how-to. The solution you seek is actually quite simple; that is to say there aren't many steps. Finding the good veneer and matching the finish is the tricky part, and that's all up to you. The more skilled you are, the more options you have - from replacing the entire panel to splicing the ends, faux finishing the patch, etc. The darker the overall finish, the easier it will hide. Whatever you do, don't settle for an obvious repair job-not worth the effort. When you're done, no one but you should find it noticable.

p.s. if you do go to a bookstore, try to find a book called "Time Life -fix it yourself manual" -it has your veneer repair, plus a wealth of other stuff around the house.
