I have an old 8″ Delta/Rockwell Jointer. I don’t know the model number (it is not posted on machine). My problem is with the pressure bars which hold the knives in place. The threaded holes are getting stripped out. I’ve thought about trying to drill/tap them for larger bolts but there are many problems with this. I’ve tried to find replacements with no luck.
Can I get replacement bars? Or, can I get a whole new cutterhead to fit this machine?

You can repair the threads with helicoil or other inserts or replace the head with an insert type head from http://www.byrdtool.com or http://www.sunhillmachinery.com

thread inserts from http://www.mcmaster.com
What you are looking for are called gibs or throat blocks. Folks often strip them since you tighten them, righty tighty, to release the hold. Just the opposite of what you might think. The pressure of the bolt head pushes against the housing to clamp the blades as you turn the bolts, lefty loosey. There are replacement parts available.

Beat it to fit / Paint it to match

I went there to get a part for the jointer I inherited from my Dad. (The jointer was built in January 1959). The parts guy couldn't find it in his computer base, so he walked back to the warehouse and found one. I think if you can give a good description of the part (or send a photo), they may be able to find a replacement for you.

I have the same jointer as well as the 4'and 6' versions.the gibs are still avalible from delta ,but as someone else said the services guys may not be able to find them.if you can't find them please let me know,my freind is a licenced Delta repairman ,he has got two sets for me over the years and often has them in stock.

That would be great if he could find them, as I haven't had any luck yet. Just so we're on the same page, the model number is 37-315. I would need the little 1/4-28 bolts as well as the 3 jib bars.
I WILL BE SPEAKING WITH HIM IN COUPLE DAYS. IT IS A COMPLETE SET ,THE NUTS ARE ALWAYS ,OR MOST ALWAYS THE PROBLEM. I WILL GET BACK.
