I have a problem area on oak floors. I have approximately 600 square feet of oak floor that we are in the process of refinishing. I rented a orbital sander and had good luck up to one point. We hit an area about 4’x5′ which had linoleum or tile on it at one time. The problem is that there is a residue left in the pattern of a hexagon. The residue is thin and hard and in a pattern of hexagons. the color of it is tan and very slick. I used a 10 grit paper and sanded this area for 2 hours. It took off about half of it. the residue looks like an epoxy or some thing like a wood filler. I had to return the sander last night and I was thinking about using an epoxy chemical stripper. Any advice would be appreciated. thanks

How old is the floor? If it's pre 1940 that might be shellac. soak a little alcohol on it and see if it comes up.. if not you could be right but it's doubtfull epoxy was used over a large area..
I got lucky, I bought and used epoxy-paint remover and it worked. thanks for your time
Check over at Breaktime (FHB). I'm sure there's lots of floor refinishing articles there.
