I am a painting contractor that would like to learn how to refinish furniture and cabinets. I often run across cabinets that have been lacquered and damaged from water and general neglect. I have some now that the lacquer is gone in areas and the bare wood is showing. What is the best way to refinish to make everything blend in without showing?

Hi Ron,
Our finishing expert is not yet available so I'm hunting down your answer. Give me a day or two and I'll get back to you.

Ron,
You said the key words in the first sentence of your question. How can I learn to refinish? Are there any schools in your area that offer finishing classes? There are numerous books on the subject that will help you understand the terminology, but there is no substitute to being under the watchful eye of an experienced finishing instructor.
Along with learning technique, take the time to learn the pro's and con's of the variuos finishing products. I feel this is where most inexperienced finishers make their biggest mistakes. Lack of technical knowledge can lead to doing things over again. And just so you know, I've had that experience far more times than I'd care to admit.
Good luck and keep us posted as you progress.
