I’ve been thinking about getting a Hawk scrollsaw, an upgrade from my Delta Shopmaster. Just got their great video and brochure, which really got me thinking. Then I checked their website yesterday and they have a new model the G4, which is the same size as the 226. Has anyone used this new model, or heard any reviews about it? I am wondering if this would be a better saw the the 226.
the reason I am looking at a 26″ saw is that I’d hate to eventually be in the position of needing the extra clearance for a project and not have it, since it only seems to be a $100 difference right now between the 220 and the 226.
Actually, any insights about Hawk in general would be appreciated. That is probably the highest price I can afford, no Hegner for me, even though they really look sweet.
Thanks
Ed

I always encourage people seeking scroll saw advice to also check at justwoodworking.com during their search. You'll find a scroll saw forum there, with several professionals in addition to the minions of us beginners (speaking of myself, here). You will also see mentioned another forum that I think is one of those Microsoft-based groups that seems very professional-oriented. These are the guys and gals who often use the Hawks and Hegners.

Thanks very much, yes I did visit it yesterday and saw mention of the new saw, but I guess it has not been released yet, since all I see is talk of what is new about it. I just thought maybe I'd try this forum as well.
I have found a decent one from Scrollsaw Association of the World...

No mention of the new saw yet though
Thanks for the help

You're wise to try and get some 1st-hand reports. Sometimes, those new machines have glitches, though that seems to be more a DeWalt thing, LOL.
I'm zapped right now, gotta go to bed early, but I'm intrigued. Will drift over to JWW tomorrow and find out what the new stuff is!
I have a little Delta too, best darned thing for $99 I ever bought, far exceeded my expectations. Passed on a Hegner at an auction last summer when it got over $300, really should have kept bidding, but who knows how far "the other guy" would have gone. Got alot of other good stuff cheap, so I'm trying to forget the Hegner (yeah, right).
Have a great weekend. We're in Indian Summer here, so I'm giddy.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Luckily, my woodworking club, Long Island, just started a scrollsaw subsection. From what I hear most of them have Hegners. I will get to try one next meeting in a few weeks. But still I seem to be leaning towards Hawk, because I like the fact that it can be slowed down to 30 rpm for doing metal, which I might be interested in. I guess their free video really got me interested.
Yea I know that new models can be a bit glitchy. The one thing that does not worry me so much is that they are a US company, and that they have a 6 year warranty and 30 day money back guarantee. So that seems quite attractive.
Plus who can resist the 6 month no interest plan they offer! I will keep searching all the scrollsaw boards for more input on the Hawk, and from what I hear there will be fall woodworking shows so maybe I can get to go and try one soon.
I don't mean to really knock my Delta, I did a few nice projects with it. Guess I am just a tool junkie always looking for the next best thing.
Enjoy your nice weather, its cloudy with rain coming here. Fall seems to have arrived. Just means more time in the shop, which is fine by me.
:)

Oh, I didn't think you were knocking the Delta. There's simply no comparison between a Shopmaster scroll saw and a Hawk. A Ford Focus'll get you where you're going, but a Lexus'll get you there easier, more comfortably and many more times, LOL!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
