It’s been a while and I’m not sure I remember
what I learned last time. I’m allowing an extra inch
of width on the horizontal boards to allow for tearout.
I don’t believe any adjustments are necessary for the vertical.
When measuring the horizontals, which fit between the verticals
can I assume the horizontal should equal the size of the door opening
plus the combined width of the verticals?
Help appreciated.
Thanks…Keen

Are you talking about the horizontal and vertical stiles??
What will be the overall dimension of an example door?
Will the doors be flush mount with maybe something like a 1/4" overhang around all sides of the opening?
What kind of hinges do you want to use?

I'm using a rail and style router bit on a table. The doors will be
inset. the overall width of the door will be 10" and the
stiles and rails will be 13/4" wide. I subtracted 31/2" from
10" for the horizontals parts which fit into the verticals. Is this
correct?
Thanks much
Ken
If I am reading your post right than the rail (horizontal) should equal the width of the opening minus the witdh of the stile, minus the width of the gap around the door and plus the length of the two mortises at each end of the stile. The stile is the length of the opening minus the gap.
As for leaving the rail a 1" wider for tear out it is not needed if you use a backer board and cut the rail ends before you cut the edge.

Thank You:
I'm using a rail and stile cutter on my router table. I
thought the mortice edge fit into the dado cut with the
opposite router bit, which, If I'm correct would not need
any adjustment from the formula you suggested. Please
advise me if I have this right.
Gratefully, Ken
