got some 8/4 quilted maobi at a great price. the quilted “blister” figure is subtle but looks to have a lot of promise.
I’m wondering if anyone out there has any experience with this lumber?
if so, how does it work?…more so, how does it finish? how to bring out the figure best? i wiped some mineral spirits to get a look at the figure and it seemed to muddy it up more then i am used too ( i use a lot of cherry and the mineral spirits wipe always look great).
anyone used it before? thanks Steve

So how much do you have and how do you plan to use it? This is a truly great wood, but I suspect that since you said subtle, it didn't quite make it to the veneer log quality.
If you want to make a larger piece, you should look at some veneer to use for the larger parts, and just use this for trim and edges.
Here is a link that you can find some great veneer. You misspelled moabi, which is blistered Makore. Click on the wood menu, then designer veneer, then scroll down to Makore, blistered.

Thanks Keith, what i have is not the link you sent me, but its interesting that the markore was listed as a african cherry.
The boards I got (50bft) are also known as "african pear", its quilting is not near as dramatic as the markore or even the quilted western maple we have all seen.
You can get a look at the wood I got at westpennhardwoods.com, click on closeouts and you will find a picture of the wood there.
thanks for the info, i have thought that i would resaw it into veneer for many projects i may use it for.
