Quilt pattern choices for Shaker bedroom furniture
I am in the process of completing a Shaker bedroom set, having already finished a blanket chest and a bed, and presently working on a set of matching bedside tables.
Here’s my question:
My wife, an accomplished quilter, would like to make a quilt for the bed, but we are having trouble deciding on an appropriate pattern. An Internet search for “Shaker quilt patterns” yielded virtually nothing. What would be an appropriate quilt design for a Shaker bed?

If you do a search on "Shaker quilts" you'll see lots of examples. She might need to work out the specific pattern herself, however.
Matched sets.
I always have a bit of trouble of people creating matched sets, the current trend being to take a ranch house and fill it all with cheep danish modern and a 57 chevy in the drive that never existed when it was built. When we lived in those things, maybe still do we had collections of stuff from all periods handed down. I think the variety is what makes peoples personal homes interesting.
Which brings me to quilts and I bet the women making quilts brought patterns with them. Perhaps they cut down on complexity, and limited color, but do you really want that? Perhaps I'm just challenging the premise that sometime back then they had it right and we couldn't possibly add anything. Trust your wife's skill and taste. Let her make something. And the combination with your work will be better than just fine. To hell with authenticity.
