I am considering making a couple simple (i.e. last minute) gifts for my two-year-old son and his friend for Christmas. I am hoping to take a digital picture of them, print it on photo paper, glue it to a backing board, and cut it into a puzzle. Since I have never attempted this before, I have a couple questions.
– Is standard photo paper the best choice (will it glue to the backing board acceptably)?
– What is the best glue to use?
– Is MDF a good backing to use?
– Should I make the border of the puzzle out of harwood to make it more durable?
– Should I apply a water based finish or just leave it natural?
– Any other comments or suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Craig

This falls under the "any other suggestions" category: There is a place on-line where you can upload a picture, and they will turn it into a jigsaw puzzle for you to print out. It's free. You can select the difficulty level of the puzzle, I'm pretty sure. Can't give you the link tonight, because it's bookmarked on my other computer, but you could Google on "jigsaw puzzle" + on-line or something similar and you could probably find it.
For a 2-year-old, I'd be tempted to use the epoxy-type prep they sell in craft stores to make MDO-based picture presentations with. I bought one of these kits to make something for the elderly in-laws. I'll read the instructions tomorrow and see what glue they recommend.
