For cutting wood, is there a standard for how many teeth are needed per inch according to the width of the blade?
for instance, if I have a 6mm thin blade, how many teeth per/inch do I need for cutting hardwoods?
I would appreciate the help, it is pretty urgent.

The thickness of the wood and the curviture of the cut determine the number of teeth and the type of teeth.
Let me suggest you get Lonnie Bird's Bandsaw Book. Amazon will have it. It will give you info on setting up and aligning your saw. It will also go into detail on the type of blade to use for differing operations. There is not one "all purpose" blade for a bandsaw.
the thing is is that I am in Israel. You cannot just go into a store and walk out with a band saw blade. They sell 30 ft lengths and you need to have it cut to length and welded. So my saw is bladeless and I need to order these as soon as possible.
I am looking to order a 6, 10, 20mm width, I just don't know how many teeth I need for each of them.
In addition to the good recommendation for Lonnie Bird's book, you can find good information online with guidance on various uses for specific bandsaw blades. Suffolk machinery has a very useful chart that will give you a very good idea of the sorts of blades to do different kinds of work.
I used this chart to select my first bandsaw blades, and use it to decide what blade to use when doing different kinds of work.My goal is for my work to outlast me. Expect my joinery to get simpler as time goes by.
You've gotten some good advice so far. What blade you should buy really depends on your machine and what you want to do with it. So, what is your machine and what do you want to do with it?In the absense of any information, I would recommend a 10 MM X 4TPI band. This will do a decent job on curves and straight cuts and will run well on most band saws. There are several common tooth geometries, so be sure to get one intended for wood. Buy other blades as you have need for them.I'm sure you could order bands from Suffolk (http://www.suffolkmachinery.com/) and have them shipped.Pete
gedalia,
1. get a 10mm x 3 TPI blade just to have something on the saw that will always be useful.
2. get one of the recommended books and study.

Dear G,
What Pete Bradley said, I'll second. Suffolk Machinery are great. They are a great help. You can't order from their website, but a phone call will get you all the info you need. I can't speak for them, but I have to believe that shipping to Israel is no big deal.
