I’ve just registered here (although I’ve been reading FWW for 15+ years!), and I have a question about the website rules.
I want to post about a woodworking contest we’re having at our website. The page I want to link to is non-commercial in nature (nothing offered for sale, etc.) … but it’s at a site that has commercial pages.
Is this acceptable?
Thanks,
Travis Corcoran

Rules ? What rules? There are Rules? Now you tell me.
The only rule is "there are no rules".
sorry that didn't help much but I had to get it out. I feel better now.
I typed in : "knots discussion rules"
I got no rules so I say go for it. If they are going to make it hard to find what the heck.
Oops . . . I can't just let a good search go . . . :

OK, then onward!First, we're running a contest RIGHT NOW with a $250 prize for the best woodworking project, as chosen by internet voters. Submit projects before next Friday (10 October) at http://smartflix.com/contest/show/1Second, the contest is being sponsored by SmartFlix, which rents out how-to DVDs. We've got about 6,000 titles total, and 327 of them are woodworking DVDs. Ee rent them for just $9.99 each for a week (with free shipping in both directions).Third, we've just opened Woodturner University . Woodturner University is a series of woodturning DVDs to inform, educate, and motivate woodturners. We send out 3 new DVDs every month. Return those, and get new DVDs. No late fees. It's just $22.95 per month. http://woodturner-u.com/We've also just opened Woodcarving University. Same deal as
Woodturner U. http://woodcarving-u.com/Travis
Well this is pretty commercial but good to know about. Thanks. You run that way and I'll run back this way and they will never catch us.Edited 10/5/2008 4:33 pm by rocEdited 10/5/2008 4:35 pm by roc

When you go to the Fine Woodworking home page and click on Community, the page welcomes you to Knots. At the bottom, it has 'For Beginners', 'For veterans' and 'For one and all' and in 'For one and all', it shows House Rules. Click on that and you'll be able to see what's allowable, or not.

LOL! Non-commercial? This is surely not an attempt to advertise your site or to gather contacts. We readers on this forum really are a little smarter than the average chisel handle in our workshop.
If you are a woodworker, welcome. Participate. But if you are here to enjoy free advertising and earn money from us, there are legitimate ways available to you. If you truly want to know the rules, read the agreement that nearly none of us read when signing up for this forum. However, Thanks for asking permission first — even if it was from those not in authority.
By the way, I am a recent first time Smartflix customer and I intend on repeating. May I suggest you invest in an advert in FWW. You're making money off their DVD's and it's right to spread the wealth so that they can continue to supply you with some of your business assets.
Don't poison the hand that is feeding you.
BTW: Nice Business Model. Kudos!

> If you are a woodworker, welcome.Mostly a woodturner - my other work is better described as wood butchery...> By the way, I am a recent first time Smartflix customer and I intend on repeating.Great, thanks!> May I suggest you invest in an advert in FWW. Indeed, we have run ads from time to time, and we'll be running more in the near future.> You're making money off their DVD's and it's right to spread the wealth We certainly want to be on good terms with Taunton (and not just because I've been reading FWW and FHB for 15 years!), but to tell the whole story, Taunton has approached us from time to time to give us free review copies of new DVDs so as to encourage us to buy copies in bulk. ...so it's definitely a two way street, and everyone benefits.> BTW: Nice Business Model.
