Google let me down for the first time, just now. Today, I bought a board of Quavoche at the hardwood store. Said to be from Central America. Can’t find any info on the internet.
Anyone familiar with this wood? How hard is it on cutters? How it finishes? You know the drill (pun intended).

Did a search of a wood reference table with 16000 species/varieties, no hit.
Suspect this may either be an indigenous local wood or slang term for something more common.
Having said that, there are a lot of tropical woods that never make it out of their native countries for many geo/political reasons. Perhaps one of the other denizens of this group have run across it?
I just went to their web site and sent them an email asking for more information. Will post whatever I get back!
http://www.emersonhardwood.com for those who want to know. The Seattle Crosscut Hardwoods store is just across the water from me.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Ask them for the Genus-Species for the wood. Also, It sounds more like a local Indiginous Indian name
I did ask for species info, and any other common name that's used. Maybe I'll bring a piece to the Knots Fest.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hey Forestgirl- I bought some of that too a while ago to make a tool cabinet. I couldn't find any information on that wood. It's a little plain, but decent looking and pretty inexpensive -- relative to other woods from Central America. Density seems to be about the same as cherry, or tad more. Not sure about its stability. It's still sitting around, but hope to use it this summer. Since I've never heard of this wood, I'd prefer experimenting it in on something like a tool cabinet than an entertainment cabinet.
Hey Jamie,Post a picture, maybe someone will recognize it.Did I hear that it comes from South America? Maybe it a brand name, like Weyerhaeuser's "Lyptus" hybridTom
Central America, Tom. Got it at Crosscut, but it's not Lyptus. I'm thinking it might be Quaruba. I'll take a picture of it tonight and post it. Someone suggested Querbraco, but based on the pic at Woodfinder.com I'd say Nope.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
