A little time and it will look purple again.
It doesn't "get" brown when cut--that's the color that it normally is when it's not exposed to air and light. The purple color peaks in brightness after a few days exposure, then gets darker and eventually brownish over a longer period, depending on the amount of UV it gets. Finishes containing UV inhibitors are supposed to delay the browning effect, but I haven't done the experiment.

thank's steve and you are right
I sanded half of one board about 4 hours ago and now it's all the same color(purple).
one more question to all does mahogany changes color like jatoba (brazilian cherry)?
I have made quite a few piece with purpleheart, and have just recently learned about the UV inhibitor, has anybody out there used it? Does it protect the purple look? My five year old sofa table is not purple anymore and it never sees direct sunlight
