Looking for methods fellow woodworkers use to protect predrilled holes from filling up with stain and other finishing material during the finishing process. I’ve never had to address this problem before because I usually don’t predrill holes. Some of these holes will receive screws while others will receive pegs as part of an adjustable spring frame for a crib. Thanks, John

depends on the size of holes and what finish you are using..I've seen everything from tooth picks to plugs stuffed in them. Some finishes are high buildup while others are thin and not likely cause probelms..
1. Paint the inside of the hole with shellac.
2. Put a dowell in there. Pull it out when you're finished applying the finish, before it's dry.
3. Masking tape. Roll it into a tube, sticky side out.
4. drill the hole after finishing.
