I’m sure there have been articles on production turning in past issues of FWW, but I can’t find any (I have them all). Can anyone give me a clue?

There's very little about copy lathes or attachments. Unless you have a high end dedicated copy lathe (many thousands) then you are stuck with one of the add-ons. for normal lathe. Ihave one myself. It languishes in the loft.

Tom;
Professional copy lathes generally have full length knives ground to the turning profile and then fed gradually into the mounted wood blank. There are some other systems but few of them seem to have established much toehold in the marketplace. From your (self-described) clueless post I can surmise that you are not ready to invest in one of these industrial machines. I would suggest that, if you truly want to create large numbers of identical turnings, you should contact a professional turning shop who could cut a custom knife and produce them for you.
Try http://www.vegawoodworking.com/ they make addd on duplicators.
