Hi, Ive been restoring old planes, and chisels for some time now… I consider myself ok at sharpening at best..
I just purchased a new veritas large shoulder plane. the blade is A2.
I use Diasharp Diamond plates.
Ive been lapping this blade for at least 2 hours tonight using xxcoarse (started with fine but was way offflat)
I used xfine to make that last pattern in the middle.
My question is, Is it possible that im doing something wrong? After all that time I am so far from getting this new blade flat…
Ive have better result with older blade (but I spent WAY more time on each)
I am doing something wrong or Its normal for a new blade that isnt pre-lapped to be that unflat?
Thanks 🙂
Ugo

I'd say give Lee Valley a call, and email them that picture. They might replace that iron for you.
