I’m flipping thru the new McFeely’s catalog and see a couple pages of wood dowels. Just out of curiosity I check the price of a 48″L x 1″D teak dowel: $10,994.90/15 pcs, or about $733 ea. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?!?!?!?!?! That works to roughly 6 board feet with a generous kerf & waste allowance or about 1,800 bucks per bd.ft. Let’s just say I was glad I ran across this while sitting in the porcelain reading room.
I don’t know what teak goes for these days, but off the top of my head it seems one could buy a few suitable planks of the stuff, plus a decent W&H molder and tooling, mill 60′ of doweling with some change back from your eleven grand.

It's a typo but teak is expensive. I did some work on a boat in the fall and teak was $28/bf.
Not a typo!
I saw the same thing a while back and my shopmate and I actually called their customer service to verify. Unbelievable but true. They have teak dowels in other diameters and lengths, all listed for equally ridiculous prices.
