Well, last night I came to the realization that I am not going to make the deadline for the “One Board Contest”. I went upstairs, grabbed a beer and told the wife.
My punch list is just too long. A full week without my jointer really crippled me. I could not do much of anything without it.
In order to complete it…which I think I still could…would require cutting alot of corners and possibly creating mistakes as well as not “sweating the details”.
IMO, that is where a ho-hum piece becomes a real gem so I’ve decided not to rush. Hopefully when its done I’ll be able to maybe find a buyer.
As an FYI…it is a “writing desk” with a full computer incorporated into it. I built one for my den in quartersawn white oak and IMO its pretty cool. Too Bad the contest was “Maple” and not Oak! LOL!!

Bummer! Good for you for taking it so well. Any chance you can post a pic or two in the gallery when it's done?
Thanks Forestgirl! Well...not so bummed today!
I did a lot of "cipherin" yesterday and was able to come up with a plan that looked like I could complete my project.
It only required a pot of coffee, my new plan, and an all nighter in the workshop.
I was able to complete my desk. I grabbed an hour of sleep and then attempted to take some pics to post up. Wish my camera skills were better...my pics dont do justice to the figure of the maple but its the best I could do.
I'll post a couple in the gallery soon.
