I am trying to rebuild an older Powermatic 66 and I am looking to replace a 3ph baldor motor witha a single phase motor. I need to match a 3hp 3450rpm 145tc frame. However, Powermatic must have exclusive rights to distribute the Baldor version of this motor because I can’t find it anywhere else but at Powermatic and the price is $415. Does anyone have an alternate source of where to find this motor? I have found a Leeson motor but I do not know anything about them. How are Leeson motors? Also, is there anything else I need to think about? Changing out the switch etc. I have considered a phase converter but only have one 3ph tool and want to keep things simple. Any assistance is appreciated.

Be seeing you...
Try A&W Electric in Calif(Anaheim or Santa Ana?) They supplied a motor to a friend of mine's powermatic. His was a model prior to the 66, I think the 64? It looks exactly like the 66. He didn't pay that much either. The motor guy said they have had 2 of these for years and years so he sold one for cheap. If no luck, post back and I'll try to get ahold of him to verify where he got it.
Is this a 3phase motor? If it is, do you have 3 phase in your shop? If you don't you will need a converter or a single phase motor to fit your saw...
For the time, effort and money to swap out the motor, you can build or purchase a used rotory converter. Then next month when you find another 3 phase machine you allready have the power. A phase converter is very simple. The motor for the older obsolete PM65 wont fit the PM66.
