I haven’t been able to find any reference to powered hand planers, and I’m thinking of aquiring one. I thought I’d seen a review in Fine Woodworking….
Any thoughts, and any preferences?

If I remember correctly in FHB a couple years ago the better bosch won over all, the less expensive Bosch won best value, and dewalt ranked high as well. They also reviewed some specialty planers, like door planers.

Thanks, Mike,
That explains why I didn't find the review in FWW. I only get FHB occasionally.

Big Bosch fan, but I had a Makita for 12 years, no problems untill I sucked up a screw and destroyed tho whole thing. Bought another Makita. Very nice plane.

Since I did doors on a custom level I have the Porter-Cable door planer. This is THE planer for doing doors and edges. I used to have a Makita and I would buy another in a minute as they feel best to my hand and all is good with it...they cost a bit more. Mine burned in a dang garage fire and I have been slowly replacing most of what I used to own ( a BUNCH of tools).
