Hello,
Just starting the hobby and I am curious to know which power tools you would recommend acquiring, given a budget of 5000 dollar. Thank you for your responses.

I haven't read the article yet, but a basic shop, which would allow you to tackle a wide range of simpler style furniture would be: a table saw, a 6 inch jointer, and a bench top planer, all three together could be bought for under $1,500 dollars. For $5,000 you have a much larger range of options. I would possibly put much of the extra money into an upgraded table saw and an 8 inch jointer. There would probably still be money left for a 14 inch band saw and a full size drill press.
In smaller power tools at least one midsize router and a small to midsize electric hand held drill would be on my short list, as would a power planer.
You won't need a lot of hand tools but you could spend upwards of $1,000 for a good basic set including sharpening equipment, don't scrimp on those to buy larger power tools.
