Jim,
Please try not to use all capitals in your posts. I have bad eyesight, and for some reason it's very difficult for me to read all capitals. And, in the convention of the web, all capitals is reserved for SHOUTING.

Yes, there are places to get planer knives sharpened. Some may be quite close to you. Check your Yellow Pages for Saw Sharpening. Shops that can sharpen saws generally can do knives. If that doesn't work for you, Woodcraft has a sharpening service (http://www.woodcraft.com) in Virginia or thereabouts.
As for the manufacturer no longer stocking that part number, don't sweat it. Planer knives are a wear item, and there are many sources for replacements. However, it sounds like you don't need them yet.
...um..we are talking a thickness planer, right? It sits on the floor, and makes lumber a uniform thickness. You say "cutter", which makes me wonder if your tool is some other kind of machine. If that's true, maybe my above advice won't apply.
Jim, If you can't find any good local sharpeners you could try http://www.forrestsawblades.com/ and click on sharpening info.
They did a great job on my jointer knives after I had gotten rather poor results from two local sharpeners. They also did several router bits.

Go to message 17807.6, it has the name of a resource for obsolete PC parts.
