An excellent tool, made here with parts from other countries.
A good tool? The best, for heavy single depth cuts, upright. Expect adversity if upsidedown. Routers
Why adversity? I have been using that motor in a router lift for the router table for quite some time and have never had any trouble.Cheers,Peter

Hi Peter,Not to speak for Pat, err Routerman, but I think the 'adversity' comes from the spiral groves in the standard 7518 base getting clogged with dust and chips then galling when situated upside down in a table.Happens very easily since the two pins on the motor and the base are both aluminum, you probably don't see the issue because you are using an after market lift. For those of who use the 7518 without lifts, the issue usually rears it's ugly headEdited 6/11/2008 1:07 pm ET by BOBABEUI

Oh I agree that the base for that item is a horribly engineered thing indeed. That is the reason I chucked it and am using an after market lift. The motor itself is excellent and the router lifts on the market these days are a joy to operate. Incidentally most of the lifts are defaulted to fit this motor, with adapters available for other motors of course.Cheers,Peter

That's why I never stand on my head while I'm routing.

The upside down reference is a good tip--didn't realize that. But what is the best unit for upside-down use in a router table? Thanks for the info.Bob
Milwaukee make a reasonable upside down router. It has its strangeness factors but will take abuse. Brains, switches and collets in the 5625 better than most.
