I am finishing a table top and last night applied gel stain over pore filler and am noticing some streaks under underneath. Any suggestions on how to fix that? Do I have to sand the entire table top and reapply the gel stain?
After the pore filler dried, I sanded the top very carefully, wiped it down with mineral spirits and did not see any problem areas. Any suggestions on how to avoud streaks in the future?
Thanks

Hi Velo,
I'm not sure if your stain(s) and pore filler are water-based, or oil-based.
I generally use a water-based stain first, followed by a light spray or wipe of a 1lb. cut of dewaxed shellac and light sanding with 240 or 320 grit paper. Then I use an oil-based pore filler. After the filler dries and has been sanded, I apply at least one more round of a 1lb. cut of shellac, followed by light sanding. The shellac acts as a barrier coat to prevent bleeding of one finish into another. As well, the shellac helps to solidify the pore filler surface. If adding more than one coat after the pore filler, the build up of shellac will add additional depth to the finish after the application of your gel stain and final topcoat.
I use either artist brushes or cheesecloth to apply the stains, and cheesecloth or clean cotton cloth to wipe off the stain.
Just my 2 cents
