Hi,
I’ve just moved into a new (to me) house that has a nice big front porch, which is lacking only….a porch swing. Does any one know of any good porch swing plans out there? or lacking that, i’ve been thinking of designing my own. any suggestions? i’m guessing that a comfortable bench might serve as a good template for some general dimensions??
Thanks,
Rich

Woodsmith did a nice one about 20 years back. They did it as a swing or a glider. Even if you don't like the design, you can get the dimensions from their plans.
You can buy the magazine on line, also you can see buy them at Rocklers.
I built a couple of the woodsmith swings (the older version) and I am very happy with it. They also have a newer version that has a arched top with vertical back slats that I built for a client and they have been very happy with it.
I just built one last weekend. I started with a design from a weekend woodworking magazine from a few months back.
They never turn out like the plans, but it was a good place to start. Mine is much, much better. I put a cup holder on each side and moved the slats in closer for a more comfortable feel. Oh, and I built it out of oak and walnut. Got a heck of a deal on walnut a year ago ($1.50/bd ft).
If I had to do it all over again, I'd make it a bit wider .. so I could sleep on it. That seems to be what I want to do after sitting for a few minutes. Ahhhh
Best of luck,

Rockler sells a set of plans. I believe they're from the New Yankee Workshop, and I think you can find them on the Rockler website. If you want a wider one, start with a design for a day bed and add chains on the ends. I made one of them and have had requests for more (which I've ignored). Made mine out of ash about five years ago and it looks great today.
